Using dimmers with CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) has been a problem until recently. Normal CFLs should never be used with a dimmer, even if the dimming function is not used, as it will damage the ballast and cause overheating and early failure.

We now have the Philips Tornado Dimmable, a good quality Dimmable CFL suitable for use with most types of domestic dimmers. Able to be dimmed down to approx 20% output, this lamp is available in warm white for living areas and daylight for work areas such as kitchens.

For home, the light level can be adjusted to suit the situation, whether thats watching TV, reading, eating or entertaining.

For commercial applications, the Dimmable CFL is ideal for situations such as restaurants and hotels, where setting appropriate mood is very important.
