Energy meters constantly monitor your household energy usage. The idea is if you can see how much electricity you’re using, it’ll help you use less.
What sets the Wattson apart from other energy meters is that owners of grid-connect solar systems can also track exactly how much electricity they’re pumping into the grid, helping to keep those electricity retailers honest!
DIY KYOTO’S WATTSON CAN SAVE YOU ON AVERAGE 19.56% A YEAR ON YOUR ELECTRICITY BILLS
Since its release in 2006, it has been widely acclaimed for its beauty and its functionality by the design, technology and environmental industries and the wider media (Vogue, Stuff, Esquire, Marie Claire, Observer, Telegraph, Independent, Guardian).
DIY KYOTO, founded by 3 Royal College of Art graduates – Greta Corke, Richard Woods & Jon Sawdon Smith set up the company to encourage and assist people in doing their bit for the environment and think about the amount of energy they consume on an every day basis. They now act as consultants and experts within the design, energy and environmental sectors, as well as developing additional features for the wattson and continuing to grow their forward-thinking company with a variety of new high tech, ‘design-meets-green’ products in development.
WATTSON SPEAKS FOR ITSELF:
The idea is, if you can see how much electricity you’re using, it’ll help you use less. The people who invented me have found you can save up to 20% on your electricity bills. That’s quite a lot of money – enough for a new pair of shoes, or a candlelit dinner in a smart restaurant. And, of course, you’d be doing your bit for the environment.
Wattson measures renewable energy, which means if you are generating power through solar panels or wind turbines, for example, your wattson will measure how much power you are generating. Wattson can now show energy use in Euros, Dollars, Stirling and Yen as well as Pounds, making it a truly international product. It can measure single and also 3 phase systems, making it suitable for large houses and even small businesses.
Wattson has a memory that can capture data for up to four weeks, which you can then download via USB to holmes software and DIY KYOTO website. This offers opportunities for interactive competitions with fellow ‘wattsowners’, and a community of people to engage with, sharing tips and hints for saving energy.
